Come join in the fun at our annual 5K walk or run! This year’s theme, the “Shorebird Shuffle,” will have race shirts designed by AOS student member Emily Griffith featuring a shorebird common across Canada’s lakes: the Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis macularius). Just like the Spotted Sandpiper, we’re looking forward to bopping along the shoreline of London’s Thames River with participants of all ages and abilities!
This year we designed a 5K route that is more accessible to those with mobility challenges or concerns by limiting changes to terrain and eliminating stepping on or off of sidewalks. Check out our route beginning just down the street from RBC Place at Ivey Park (below, and here). The horn will go off at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, 10 August to take you on a scenic route along the Thames River multi-use path. Be sure to keep an eye out for Blackfriars Bridge (the bridge on the conference logo), and of course Spotted Sandpipers!
In addition to the Meeting Code of Conduct, this event uses city parks and will follow RZone policies. Rzone is a program requiring all persons wishing to visit or use any City of London recreation facility, park or program to respect others and take responsibility in helping the City maintain a positive environment. The “R” zone stands for Respect and Responsibility. Please familiarize yourself with the RZone policy here.
Finally, THE PRIZES!!! Do you wish to be considered for a finisher prize? Following registration, you will receive a GoogleForm by email with options to specify your appropriate gender term so that we can have prizes for top finishers using their appropriate gender terms. Everyone’s declared gender will be accepted without question. We’re looking forward to seeing you at the start line!
