Registration Now Open!

We are excited to announce that registration is now open for the AOS & SCO-SOC 2021 Virtual Meeting to be held 9–13 August 2021. Below we provide many details on the meeting so that you can begin planning your meeting experience!

Structure of the Meeting. The meeting will take place 9–13 August 2021, Monday through Friday with workshops and training opportunities the previous week (2–6 August) and the opening keynote on Monday, 9 August. Each day of the main conference we will include stimulating plenary lectures plus many concurrent symposia, contributed papers, and poster sessions, as well as multiple roundtable discussions and lively, interactive networking events. We have tailored the schedule to enable broad, live participation across the multiple time zones of the Americas. All of the talks and poster presentations will be recorded, and registered attendees will have free access to view any of them for 90 days post-conference at their leisure—no need to miss any sessions in this virtual format. The complete scientific program and abstracts for symposia presentations, contributed oral presentations, and virtual poster presentations are now available on the conference website. We are pleased to introduce our Keynote Speaker, J. Drew Lanham; our Invited Speaker, Dr. Leroy Little Bear; and our Plenary Speakers, Scott Edwards and Alice Boyle!

Registration. Registration for the virtual meeting is now open. AOS & SCO-SOC are committed to supporting members impacted by the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. We strived to keep meeting costs low for participants but recognize that these can still be a barrier. We are pleased to provide relief if the cost of registration is a financial barrier to participation. For meeting participants requiring financial assistance for any reason, please make your request through this form before registering for the meeting. We will provide you with a specific discount code to use with your registration. For more details on registration costs, see the Registration page on our meeting website.

Special country registrants should complete this form before registering for the meeting. We will provide you with a specific discount code to use with your registration.

Presentations. The Scientific Program will include 546 presentations, including 175 talks that are part of 13 different symposia, 271 contributed 12-minute oral presentations, and 100 virtual posters. Symposia sessions include 133 12-minute oral presentations and 42 4-minute lightning talks. All presenters, with the exception of poster session presenters, will be available to answer questions from attendees during live sessions. Poster session presenters may offer the option to set up their own Q&A meeting for meeting participants during their poster sessions. All presenters will be able to engage with attendees via comments on their presentations at any point during the conference.

Accessibility. Closed-captions will be available for our Keynote, Invited Speaker, and Plenary sessions, and will be turned on for presentations to ensure broad accessibility. All presenters soon will be provided detailed instructions and tips on how to give an effective virtual presentation.

Language Translation. Presenters are encouraged to offer text translations on their slides, and have the option to upload additional PDF copies of their slides in alternate languages.

Virtual Meeting Platform. We will be using Zoom Webinars and Meetings (https://zoom.us/) as the main platform for our plenaries, live Q&As, workshops, round-table discussions, meetings, exhibitor demonstrations, and many networking events. The entire program will be seamlessly integrated through the EventPilot conference app and online desktop planner, which attendees can use to access all program content and events through their mobile device or a browser on their computer (https://www.ativsoftware.com/eventpilot-conference-app-features/online-itinerary-planner/). Oral presentations will be pre-recorded, but will be played for the first time during the talk’s assigned time on the EventPilot platform. We will also be using Slack to build channels for increased communication among our attendees (details coming soon!).

More Questions? More detailed information will be coming soon for all aspects of the conference, including a request for volunteers to help. If you have immediate questions, please contact us at meeting@americanornithology.org.

Although this meeting will be virtual, we are confident that participants will foster invaluable connections, that important and innovative research will be communicated, and that much knowledge will be gained from participating in this conference. We hope to “see” you soon!
