We are looking for a dedicated group of volunteers to help make the American Ornithological Society & BirdsCaribbean 2022 (AOS & BC 2022) joint conference this summer in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a spectacular success!

Volunteers must be 18 years or older, but students (undergraduate and graduate), early professionals (within five years of terminal degree), and local professionals residing in Puerto Rico more than five years from their terminal degree will be given priority for assignments. Professionals outside of Puerto Rico more than five years out from their terminal degree are still encouraged to sign up, and we will contact you if positions need to be filled.

We are asking volunteers who are planning to attend the conference to work at least 10 hours total (including any required training or remote pre-conference work) in exchange for $120 off of registration to AOS & BC 2022. For those who are unable to attend the conference, there will be some opportunities to volunteer fully remotely prior to the conference for 10 hours to help with translating communications from English to Spanish in exchange for complementary 2-year memberships to both the American Ornithological Society and BirdsCaribbean.

Volunteers working during the conference will be able to arrange their schedule so that they should not have to miss any of the sessions or events they want to attend. Below is a summary of the opportunities available for volunteers:

  • Translating conference written communication material from English to Spanish. Remote positions are currently available! Reliable internet access is not necessary.
  • Providing in-person tech support during the conference. Training will be provided either the week before the conference or at the conference.
  • Assisting with registration, conference help desk, selling merchandise, and the Silent Auction fundraiser. Training will be provided at the conference.

These opportunities are open to all members of the ornithological community and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You do not need to be a presenter at the conference or a current member of one of the host societies to volunteer. In appreciation for the commitment of their time, all volunteers will be acknowledged formally as members of the AOS & BC 2022 Volunteer Committee.
