Call for Volunteers for AOS & SCO–SOC 2023

UPDATE 6/1/23: Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the AOS & SCO–SOC 2023 Annual Meeting in London, Ontario, Canada. At this time all of our volunteer positions have been filled. For more information you can email us at meeting@americanornithology.org. Thanks and we will see you in August!

We are looking for a dedicated group of volunteers to help make AOS & SCO–SOC 2023, the American Ornithological Society & Society of Canadian Ornithologists–Société des ornithologistes du Canada (SCO–SOC) joint conference this summer in London, Ontario, Canada, a spectacular success! The meeting will be held at RBC Place, a conference center in downtown London, from 8–12 August 2023.

Volunteers must be 18 years or older, but students (undergraduate and graduate), early professionals (within five years of terminal degree), and local professionals residing in London, Ontario, more than five years from their terminal degree will be given priority for assignments. Professionals outside of London, Ontario, more than five years out from their terminal degree are still encouraged to sign up, and we will contact you if positions need to be filled.

We are asking volunteers who are planning to attend the conference to work at least 10 hours total (including any required training or remote pre-conference work) in exchange for $120 off of registration to attend AOS & SCO–SOC 2023.

Volunteers working during the conference will be able to arrange their schedule so that they should not have to miss any of the sessions or events they want to attend. Below is a summary of the opportunities available for volunteers:

  • Providing in-person tech support during the conference. Training will be provided either the week before the conference or at the conference.
  • Assisting with registration, conference help desk, and selling merchandise. Training will be provided at the conference.
  • Providing in-person guidance for Fun Run participants.
  • Additional in-person or remote volunteer opportunities may arise as we near the conference dates.

These opportunities are open to all members of the ornithological community and are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You do not need to be a presenter at the conference or a current member of one of the host societies to volunteer. In appreciation for the commitment of their time, all volunteers will be acknowledged formally as members of the AOS & SCO–SOC 2023 Volunteer Committee.

If you are interested in volunteering, please sign up here. Any questions can be sent to meeting@americanornithology.org.
