The Meeting Coordination Committee for the 2023 joint meeting of the American Ornithological Society (AOS) and the Society of Canadian Ornithologists–Société des ornithologistes du Canada (SCO–SOC) is looking for members interested in joining conference organizing committees.
As a member of a conference organizing committee you have the unique opportunity to develop the content and events you would like to see at the conference and collaborate with other members of the ornithological community. The commitment will be on average 1–2 hours a week, but this may increase in the month leading up to the conference.
We are dedicated to ensuring the 2023 conference is a safe, accessible, open, respectful, and bias-free environment. To do this, we are seeking volunteers to serve on the BRIDGE (Belonging, Respect, Inclusion, Diversity, Growth, and Equity) sub-committee. The BRIDGE Committee is composed of individuals from under-represented communities in ornithology interested in increasing the representation and meaningful, mutually-valuable inclusion of racialized persons, minority groups, and their intersectional identities in meetings, workshops, leadership, and conference attendees.
This opportunity is available to society members 18 years or older. All meetings leading up to the conference will be conducted virtually. You are welcome to participate on a committee whether or not you are planning to attend the in-person conference.
