Dear Colleagues:

We are very excited to announce that the American Ornithological Society (AOS) is having a joint conference with BirdsCaribbean (BC) in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 27 June–2 July 2022. This will be the 140th annual meeting of AOS and the 24th annual meeting of BC. We will also have the local support from the organizations Para La Naturaleza and Sociedad Ornitológica Puertorriqueña, Inc. (SOPI). This new collaboration will provide new opportunities for our organizations, and for conference attendees, to build new partnerships for research, conservation, and education.

Together, we are preparing an exciting program with keynote speakers, plenaries, symposia, workshops, and an extensive field trip program that includes opportunities to see the diverse local avifauna, including the unique endemic species. We will be able to enjoy the modern and spacious facilities of the San Juan Convention Center, which is strategically located between the attractive Condado area and historical Old San Juan, a city which is celebrating 500 years since its foundation in 1521.

We are working on creating a stronger and more welcoming community within ornithology for researchers, students, educators, and birders from different backgrounds. Being our first in-person meeting in two years, we expect broad participation from North America, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

With the conference theme, “On the Wings of Recovery: Resilience and Action,” we want to reflect how we are all moving forward with our lives and careers in challenging times, with the COVID pandemic, and the passage of strong hurricanes through the Caribbean region in recent years.

We want to emphasize how Puerto Rico’s strict COVID safety guidelines and requirements, reassure us of a safe travel and conference experience.

Please register to attend (registration will open soon!) and submit an abstract to present your work, sign-up for training opportunities, socials, awards, and field trips!

We are looking forward to seeing you in Puerto Rico!
